Rough needs to be cut
I have to agree with previous reviews that the rough needs to be cut. You should not have to spend 5 minutes looking for your ball when you barely miss the fairway. Greens were OK, overall an average course.
Poor Maintenance
Course is beautiful, great pace of play, great features, very friendly staff, excellent value. However, they do not maintain the grass well, the rough which is just off the fairway, was so tall and un maintained, that if your ball went 2 inches off of the fairway you could not locate it in the grass. They had left grass cuttings all over the place, made it difficult to locate golf balls. I let them know this, and they stated they do not have a full time maintenance crew, and therefore you had to deal with it. We won't be back.
Crazy Rough
The rough is 8 inch + long and THICK on most holes. A ball a few yards off the fairway or missing the green GONE! Did not seem that wet. Will not go back until the rough is cut.
This course is getting better and better
This course was in great shape considering all the rain lately. Greens were in much better shape since the last week. It had been three weeks since being aerated. The only thing that was a bit frustrating was the rough. Extremely thick! Lost a couple of balls in it during the round. I asked about it being cut was told they didn't plan on it until the weather got better to dry out all the grass. Aside from that this course is in excellent shape and when you consider the value it can't get any better. The staff is amazing and very friendly. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone and everyone!
Uncut Ruffs
Course is very nice with the exceptions of the ruff that has not been cut in two weeks. It is no fun spending time on each tee shot that may only be a few feet off the fairway and you can't find it. Talked to club house and they are quite aware. Also talked to member who were just as up set as my foursome. Will not return until I know it is cut. Great cart service and food.
Great views
Really nice course although it suffered from the recent storm. Course has a lot of character and great views of Phoenix. Some holes are right at the foot of South Mountain and very interesting.
Great Staff! A lot of rough areas
This course is great for its value, but keep in mind you might loose a few balls in the rough. The Course is full of rough areas that have high grass, VERY difficult to find your balls and consumes time to look for them. I'm an average weekend player and normally I drive my balls on the sides of the fairway or in the rough. If you play well and know how to keep the ball on the fairway, then you will definitely enjoy this course and the backside scene for south mountain.
The rough was ...ROUGH!
I know you are supposed to keep the ball in the short stuff...but no being a professional...that's not going to happen all the time! The course was recovering from the recent storms, which maybe why the rough areas were so tall. Literally, between our foursome, we lost 7-8 balls that landed just left or right of the fairway. The rough areas 2 feet off the fairway was so tall, if your ball landed and rolled into it...it was gone! Made for a frustrating time when a well hit ball "disappeared". Other than that..nice course.
Nice
The course was recently hit with the monsoon but overall conditions were very nice. Bunkers had been hit hard with rain so clubhouse told us to just play it as ground under repair.
Greens were very nice, hard to read but whatever. I prefer a little better tee box quality as far as them being level. However, the course condition was overall very nice especially considering the weather we recently had.
The cost was incredible for the quality of the course. I recommend this course to anyone looking for a decent course for the money.
Better than Usual
There was a time Vistal only saw my business because I had not booked my tee time early enough in the week but this weekend the course was in excellent condition.
Thank you new mangament!
Great course
This is the best shape the course has been in the 7 years I have been playing here.
The grass is greener
I have not played the course in about two years. However I've been driving by it everyday and have noticed the course getting better. There is more grass on the course and they have let the ruff grow. For $15.00 it was not a bad round.
great value
rode for $15. excellent value. the scenery was great. right at the foot of south mountain. the rough was wet, lush, ball-sinks-to-the-bottom thick. greens were ok. I think they were punch a few weeks back but definitely playable. there was also plenty of thick sand in the bunkers. the course was very playable.
overall a great course.
vistal golf clib
greens were a little bumpy from aeration rough needed to be cut,the ball would settle to the bottom and were almost impossible to advance very far down the fairway other than that course was in great condition
GOOD PACE OF PLAY
ENJOYED THE ROUND. FAIRWAY WERE GOOD THE GREENS WERE BUMPY BUT NOT BAD FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR.
Still Recovering
Course, fairways and greens, still recovering from acieration. Fairway were in pretty good shape, green were sparse, bumpy and slow. Staff very friendly as always and bar area is great. All in all good day, will give it a couple more weeks for the greens to grow in.
Wonderful Course
Play from the back tees to get the extra mileage. You'll use ever club in the bag. Aim is more important than distance. The greens were aerated on 6/23 and were hard to putt (slow) but it's a pretty course and well worh the money. Tough par 3's. Not for a timid golfer.
Good layout, slow, soft untrue greens
Greens soft, slow . Recent water problems may have caused all the fairway and green issues.
Vistal golf is challenging and fun
Vistal is a great golf experience for my money. Set against a backdrop of the Phx South Mtn preserve, it offers great scenery and challenges too. We played from the Gold tees and that was a test for a bogey+ golfer like me. The course itself was suffering from the desert heat but it appears the groundskeepers are working hard to keep the course looking better and better. You need to stay down the middle on many fairways or you'll find the desert rough. Also, a lake comes into play on 4-5 holes where if you go slightly long off the back of the green you'll find your approach shot rolling into the water. Was a great summer golf outing for the price, <$20.
