Gold Canyon's Scott Scherger Leads Resurgence of East
Valley's Premier Facility

PHOENIX -- When Scott Scherger told me he had moved to the Gilbert,
Arizona from San Diego, it begged the proverbial question: "why?"
"Coming to Gold Canyon was a good opportunity for me to
come to a 27 hole facility with development around it," says
Scherger, justifying his move from a temperate maritime climate
to full on hell's kitchen. "I wanted to be able to grow with
the course."
But something told me that Scherger was a little too down to
earth to actually be from So Cal. My suspicions were confirmed
when this up and coming head professional told me he was actually
from Montana.
"I grew up in Montana, and went to school in Bozeman,"
said Scherger.
"Montana State," I said.
"Ya," Scott said, a look of surprise on his face.
"Did you play on the golf team?" says I.
"No golf team in Bozeman, Shane," says Scott.
After graduating from MSU, Scherger decided upon golf as a career
and headed off to the Golf Academy in San Diego. After graduating
from the academy, Scherger went on to do his PGA apprenticeship
at the Lafayette Country Club in Indiana.
And if he had any hobbies before coming on board at Gold Canyon,
they have dissipated like rainwater in the Arizona sun. By practically
living at the pro shop, hobbies have about as much of a chance
with Scherger as the Knicks do with the Spurs.
But with Scherger at the helm of Gold Canyon, there is one thing
you can be sure of: the golf and the service will be second to
none. And if you really want to get on his good side, ask him
if the pro shop carries any Montana State Bobcat head covers.
