Phoenix's Phantom Horse Golf Club fails to impress readerI'm 18 years old and a 2 handicap. I would not recommend the Phantom Horse Golf Club for anyone to play while on a golf vacation in Phoenix. I did not like it at all. First off, it is in the middle of a resort. OK, I can deal with that.
Second, the driving range is just a small piece of trashed land, and you have to use Cayman golf balls (the ones that don't have dimples but have nubs) and hit them off of mats. Gross! Third, the course is just OK, with lots of blind lay-up shots. It doesn't tell you the distance to lay up for any of the doglegs, of which there are plenty. Maybe it won't affect some people, but I hit the ball far, and it really screwed me up. One positive note: You should go up to the restaurant on the top, Rustler's Roost. It is really cool. You have got to order the rattlesnake. You don't have to get dressed up. Just go as you are. Overall, though, I would not recommend this golf course. Go just down the street and play the Raven. It is sooo much better. January 19, 2007 Any opinions expressed above are those of the writer and do not necessarily represent the views of the management. |

Golf at The Wigwam is a truly classic experience. This Arizona treasure was established in the 1930s, a time when golf courses did not get built through dense housing developments, and certainly not with tight, target fairways. This jewel of the desert is among the Southwest's last remaining golf resorts built for a pure golf experience.
