Reader doesn't sacrifice quality on golf vacation to Scottsdale

My wife and I own our own business and enjoy the luxury of several golfing vacations every year, thanks to some very good and trustworthy employees.

We-Ko-Pa is just one of the courses Eugene Alden and his wife will play during a Scottsdale golf vacation.
We-Ko-Pa
If you go

We are in our early 50s. In order to afford to take that many golf trips, we are cost-conscious about where we stay and where we play. But golfing is our main reason to travel, so we are careful not to sacrifice the quality of courses we play. Occasionally we will wind up on a course that we would rather not be on.

We are traveling to Scottsdale, Ariz., playing eight rounds of golf, and staying in a one-bedroom suite with a full kitchen. We plan to eat out for dinner half the time, eat in the other half. Breakfast is free with the room.

We will be playing We-Ko-Pa, Ocotillo, Longbow, Camelback, Gold Canyon (Dinosaur Mountain course), Dove Valley, Legacy and Phantom Horse. All pretty nice courses, you must admit.

Including taxes and fuel for our truck from Colorado and back we will spend about $2,300. That's less than $150 per person, per day.

I don't get it! Why would most people go there and spend $250 to $300 a day just for golf and a place to stay? Are they just too occupied to look for better deals or don't they know how?

We travel to Las Vegas, Atlanta, Dallas (our favorite and least expensive golf haven), Orlando, Tampa Bay and several other places in the States and always find good deals on golf and nice places to stay.

I would like to hear from you on this subject, whether or not we are the norm or the exception.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
