Saguaro course at We-Ko-Pa Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona

Following in the footsteps of We-Ko-Pa Golf Club, a sleeper hit since its 2001 debut, the Saguaro course at We-Ko-Pa was one of the most eagerly anticipated Phoenix/Scottsdale golf openings in years. Saguaro offers a completely different look from it big brother - more wide open and less visually intimidating. But it's still a very satisfying play, one that's bound to develop its own cult.

Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, the design team behind the renowned Bandon Trails, set out to create a walkable course in the middle of the Arizona desert, and they succeeded admirably. Saguaro offers Speed Carts, which motor alongside you with the push of a button, to make the stroll more relaxing. Even better, there are no houses to distract you from the views: This is Native American land and condos are banned.
