Starfire Golf Club in north central Scottsdale boasts three nine-hole courses: the King, the Hawk, and the Squire. The courses weave through stands of eucalyptus, pines and cottonwood trees and all of them are known for their scenic and challenging par 3s, many of which play over water. Arnold Palmer designed the Hawk nine and redesigned the existing King and Squire Courses as well. The nines are played in three different 18-hole combinations. To the Squire/King Course, Palmer added bunkers and water hazards that come into play on 13 holes. An example of one of the par 3s that Starfire is known for is the Squire's fifth hole. This seemingly modest hole is actually quite tricky since it plays over water and has bunkers to the left and mounds to the right.
