Not Reccomended
Played this course over last 10 years off and on. Played first time in 10 months and greens and fairways have seriously deteriorated. Only one golf staff member observed at check in who said hello, took my money and said nothing else. No bag reception or assistance at end of round. No other employees were observed on the course. Very disappointed.
Sam Miguel golf course
Greens in rough shape as were the fairways
its a shame
Played San Miguel for the first time this past Wednesday. I had heard good things about it. I was terribly disappointed in the condition of the golf course. The overseeding did not take, the fairways were terrible and the grenns were PAINTED!
The course good be a real gem but sadly it seems they dont want to spend money on getting it into proper condition. There are NO BUNKERS on the course so thats one less thing to maintain. Tricky greens with lots of undulation. The 45 minute drive was a waste of gas.
Good Value
Never seen greens over sanded in January. Like putting in a bunker. Otherwise a nice course.
No sand traps
Although greens were a little under repair and reseaded course played good had a lot of fun some water in play course has lot to offer any golfer
Great Par 3's
Course is well laid out with challenging greens to test all golfers putting skills. Fairways are wide open with dog legs left and right to still challenge the average golfer. Course is not a challenge to a scratch golfer which still works well for the retired Arizona area.
Good Course with many challenges
The course was in good shape for the time of year. The greens were true, and the fairways were in good shape. There is water on a few holes which makes it challenging.
Coming Around
We played San Miguel a month ago. If you have ever driven to Tucson from Phoenix, you will see this course to your right as you make the giant left then right turn by Eloy. It has loads of interesting shots. If you don't mind bumping the ball a bit you will have more fun as there are many thin and bare spots in fairways and rough. The tees are ok, and the undulating greens and aprons are coming in nicely. The greens do not look smooth, but the putt fairly true and quick. Play after noon to get some nice breezes that can change your shot selection.
golfing san miguel
the misses and I had a very relaxing time at san Miguel. not much waiting, course is in good shape, reasonable price and friendly staff.
ok day
okay for this time of year, dry conditions lots of roll that's why the fairly easy rating
3.42799 stars
used to be in better shape. give some time and they should improve conditions. nice challeging par fives!
We'll Try This Course Again
This is a fun course with some interesting shots into the large, undulating greens. It is a links-style course, so much of the trouble off the tee will be what you manufacture. Right now the course is not in good shape. It appears the "overseed" did not take, but more than likely the course, which closed for the hot summer months. bared out in some places and the new grass cannot take. The greens were slow and bumpy. We were shopping price ($20 + $5 fees) so we tried it. We will try it again in a few months, as we observed a concerned pro and a superintendent discussing options.
Early in season
The fairways were very rough and uneven, the tee boxes were spotty with many bare spots, and the greens were very shaggy. Course just opened for the season and should improve over time.
great for the price
Course is a little tough some tee boxes are bare but it is early in season so grass is still growing and filling in.
Wait for it to be a golf course before you play it.
Played first off on a blustry morning. The course had just re-opened for the 2015-2016 season the day before. They should have held off on opening. We have been getting a lot of rain over the last few weeks and that, combined with heavy watering to get the reseeded grass to grow, made for sloppy conditions. Not sure if they even have a course superintendent. The fairways were pretty bad in some areas as the mowing was not good. Again, I think because of the weather, the were having issues. That being said, I do have some familiarity with fairway mowing. I have never seen a fairway mowed with a rotary, rough mower! It looked like they were trying to get the grass down to a level where they could mow with traditional fairway mowers...at least I hope that's what they were doing. Did I mention the broken down equipment in a couple fairways! Hole #2 was a complete disaster. Mud and rough in the middle of the so called fairway, and a broken down tractor too. Greens were slow, as to be expected after overseeding. The rest of the course looks frumpy! Lots of dead trees, fallen branches and overgrowth. There hasn't been much, if any, work done while the course was closed. Hint...while the golfers are away in the off season, CLEAN THE PLACE UP! I have been playing this course since it first opened, 20+ years, as Eloy-Tohono and there was just a trailer sitting there. It really saddens me that it has been left to this condition. Oh, they did put a fence up on #18, down the left side of the fairway. Why, I'm not sure. But the so called "lake" that the new fence goes along is just a mud hole full of dead branches and other junk. A real eye sore for a finisher. Come on guys, you can do better than this. At least get out there and clean up some of the junk laying all over the place. You golfers might want to wait on this one for a while.
NeedsWork
Tee boxes - fair - some uneven spots high and low spots
Fairways poor- grass cut uneven- high spots of grass, bare spots of grass , grass clippings on fairway . When you hit your ball down center of fairway and have to look for it because it is buried in the grass in center of fairway. Not good
Rough - poor condition- Way too thick and high at least 4 inches or higher , hit ball in rough spend too much time looking for it in high grass
Greens - poor , not smooth ball bounces around does not roll straight, very slow, grass not trimmed around cup
Was expecting nice green rye grass and all I saw was unevenly cut bermuda grass . They just opened on the 20th and looks like nobody cut the grass all summer .
not a good experience , expectation was high and very disappointed in the course
playable course priced right
need some better signs to find the place, course was shutting down the next week, but staff was helpful, carts were reasonably cared for, tee boxes needed a little tending to, fairways had good grass height, roughs were pretty forgiving, lots of grass bunkers and very rolling greens that were pretty slow, but overall a very good course to play though a little out of the way
Desert course
It's what you'd expect from a public desert course. Course is a bit far, but we had a Golfnow deal, so it was worth it. Fairways were in ok shape, greens were in good shape and some were tricky to putt. Nice course for beginners, and no sand traps too. Staff was very friendly, clubhouse was nice and lunch/drinks were a good value.
Great value for the money.
First time playing this course after 17 years. I was impressed with the way it has matured. Lots of shade trees which didn't exist when it first opened in the 90's.
Fairways in good shape, Greens in moderate to good shape. Course now has a new club house staffed with courteous and knowledgeable people. Will play here again..
Ugly
We were looking forward to playing this course for a few weeks since the reviews were good.Big mistake.
Its just like every other Casa Grande golf course, good greens just o.k fairways and everything else UGLY.Dead grass on tee boxes and overgrown rough and rocks.Save your money and drive to Tuscon or Phoenix to play.
