GolfArizona.com Staff Report PHOENIX -Two players vying for the Arizona Golf Association's Player of the Year title joined forces to notch another win at three of the Valley's premier public golf courses in late August. Just over a month after battling it out for the 75th Arizona Amateur Championship at Paradise Valley Country Club, Ken Kellaney of Phoenix and Marty James of Prescott teamed to win the Arizona Four-Ball Championship, a 54-hole stroke play at gross event played at Scottsdale's Legend Trail Golf Club, Kierland Golf Club and Talking Stick Golf Club. Kellaney and Jeff Kern of Tucson won the title in 1998, but Kern has since turned professional. Kellaney and James, who led the tournament after all three days and beat 68 other teams, finished with a total of 193, three strokes less than Roger Brown of Scottsdale and Trent Brown of Arkansas City, Kans. Bob Munoz and Kenton Steiner were third at 197, while the father-son tandem of David and Michael Derminio of Scottsdale finished eight strokes back at 201 and tied for seventh place. The low senior team, Garron Hale and Bob Turrell, shot a 203, ten strokes more than the winners. Related links: |
