PHOENIX (January 17, 2000) - PING sales representative Robin McCool of Bethlehem, PA birdied five of his first 12 holes and fired a 2-under 58 at Ahwatukee Lakes GC to defeat Ken Kellaney of Phoenix by a stoke at the 36-hole Arizona Short Course event, presented by NOVA Home Loans.

McCool also won the Short Course in 1996.

Kellaney, the Arizona Golf Association's five-time Player of the Year, missed two short birdie putts during his final round. He also finished second in 1999.

McCool plays a limited number of AGA events because his territory is in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, but made five birdies and three bogey's during the last round to beat over 100 competitors.

Defending champion John Quarty of Chandler and Steve Dallas of Gilbert each made a hole-n-one during the tournament. Quarty's 3-under 57 the second day was the low round of the tournament.

The first major on the AGA's tournament calendar, the Arizona Public Links Championship, is March 25-26 at Apache Stronghold GC near Globe. The Arizona Divisional Short Course at Springfield Golf Resort in Chandler is March 11-12.
